Meet the LEIMAY Performance Ensemble for our upcoming work:
Andrea Jones joined LEIMAY as a member of the performance ensemble in 2012 and is an active contributor to the development of the LEIMAY Ludus Training program. She is a graduate of George Mason University, where she double majored in dance and comparative literature with a focus in East Asian literature and language.
Hailing from Oakland, California, Derek DiMartini has choreographed extensively with A Different Drum Dance Company and his work has been performed with Mare Nostrum Elements, WAXworks, and Marie-Christine Giordano Salon. As a performer, he has had the opportunity to perform the works of Merce Cunningham, Ohad Naharin, Akram Khan, Reggie Wilson, Twyla Tharp, and Trisha Brown.
Emily Smith is a practicing artist, who has a background in dance, performance, print making, ceramic sculpture, fabric sculpture, choreography, and animation. Emily holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University with a minor in Biology and Dance.
Jeff M. Shortt began his dance training at age six and his gymnastics training at age four. Jeff’s professional experience began with The Judy Dworin Performance Project (JDPP), joining the original cast of 20+ years and confronting social injustice through the medium of dance theater. Jeff continues to perform with several other independent projects as well as coaching gymnastics at The Chelsea Piers Field House.
A proud native of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsey Mandolini is a professional dancer, choreographer, performance artist and dance educator living in Brooklyn. Lindsey has worked for New York-based choreographers including Pilar Castro Kiltz (Ensemble Dance), Hee Ra Yoo (Yoo & Dancers), and Regina Nejman (Regina Nejman & Company). Lindsey’s work has been presented at Symphony Space, Triskelion Arts and Dixon Place; she also choreographs for music videos and live bands.
Masanori Asahara, a native of Japan, has been living and dancing in New York since 2004. He creates his own works and besides working with LEIMAY, Masanori has performed with Janis Brenner & Dancers, Butoh Rockettes, da:zain, Ko-Ryo Dance Theater, Sasha Soreff Dance Company, Yukio Waguri and Kota Yamazaki / Fluid hug-hug, and many more.
Robert Foerster is from North Plainfield, NJ. He graduated with his BFA in Dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts-Rutgers University. Robert has presented his own choreography at New York Live Arts, Triskelion as part of WAXworks, Dance New Amsterdam, and Brooklyn Arts Exchange/BAX as part of the UPSTART Festival 2012.
